In 2018, HuaSheng — Guangzhou HuaSheng Metal Materials Co., Ltd., a bus shelter manufacturer founded in 1989 — delivered metal bus shelters for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Each station combined three fabricated elements: a shading canopy over the waiting area, a glass enclosure for passenger protection, and a standalone wayfinding pylon for route identity. The Riyadh work is part of HuaSheng's Middle East project record, which also spans Dammam, Mecca and Qatar, delivered with shade, ventilation, prefabricated units, overseas logistics and on-site support adapted to high-heat environments and local architectural language.

The procurement challenge

A bus shelter tender in Saudi Arabia asks more of a manufacturer than most markets. The product must remain safe and comfortable through months of extreme heat; the visual language must respect local architectural context; and the supply chain must bridge fabrication in China with installation crews on the ground in Riyadh. Procurement teams therefore need a partner who can take responsibility for the full chain — engineering review of drawings, documented material and process quality, export packaging designed for re-assembly, and remote support during installation. Climate & environment requirements

Riyadh sits deep in the Arabian interior: summer temperatures are among the highest of any capital city, solar radiation is intense, wind-blown sand and dust abrade surfaces and mechanisms, and desert nights swing sharply cooler than the day. Those conditions were treated as design requirements:

Materials & engineering approach

The Riyadh shelters draw on HuaSheng's standard transit material system: hot-dip galvanized steel, 304/201 stainless steel or aluminium profiles for structure; tempered safety glass for the enclosure; and outdoor powder coating or electrophoresis for surface protection. The three-element layout — canopy, enclosure, pylon — was engineered as prefabricated units, following the approach HuaSheng applies across its Saudi and Gulf projects: modular, bolt-together construction classified by assembly sequence, so components fabricated and finished in Guangzhou arrive as a coherent kit that local crews can erect without re-fabrication on site.

Manufacturing & quality process

Fabrication followed HuaSheng's eight-step workflow inside its 120,000 m² plant — five workshops, 297 precision machines and 600+ frontline staff: design and process review; IQC incoming inspection of steel, aluminium and accessories; laser cutting, punching, bending and tube bending; robotic plus manual welding; surface treatment on a digital automatic spray line (pre-treatment, electrophoresis, powder coating, baking); clean assembly and commissioning; FQC final inspection covering appearance, structure and electrical items; and packing for container dispatch. The quality system is ISO 9001 certified and managed on a DMAIC cycle from incoming material to outbound container, and HuaSheng holds bus shelter design patents and structural utility patents covering structures, light boxes and connectors.

Delivery & outcome

The shelters were shipped using HuaSheng's export model — totem-style container loading for maximum utilisation, protective packing for ocean freight, and assembly drawings plus remote support for the local installation team — consistent with the overseas logistics and on-site support HuaSheng provides across its Middle East programme. Delivered in 2018, the Riyadh project now stands on HuaSheng's project record alongside its Dammam, Mecca and Qatar references as proof that the company's shelters, enclosures and wayfinding structures perform in the region's most demanding heat.
