Overview
In 2018, HuaSheng manufactured metal postal shelters for New Zealand's island climate. New Zealand Post appears in the company's client references. Other clients include IKEA, Hong Kong MTR, the Beijing Olympics Committee, the Government of Qatar, Korean municipalities and Romanian Transport. The 120,000 m² Guangzhou factory produced the shelters for shipment to Oceania. The company also supplies markets in the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
The procurement challenge
New Zealand postal shelters operate outdoors, often near the coast. Buyers must consider maintenance costs over the service life. Corrosion, fading and leaks can increase those costs. Overseas products must also withstand sea transport and arrive in compact packaging. Local teams need clear instructions for assembly without factory staff on site.
Island & coastal climate requirements
No point in New Zealand is far from the sea, and that geography defines the engineering brief. As design requirements, an island climate imposes:
- Salt-air corrosion resistance. Salt air can damage bare or poorly coated steel. Galvanized steel, stainless steel or aluminum structures need suitable pretreatment and protective coatings.
- High UV exposureNew Zealand's strong ultraviolet levels degrade unsuitable finishes quickly, so outdoor-grade powder coating baked under controlled conditions is essential for color stability.
- Wind-driven rainCanopy geometry, drainage paths and sealed joints must shed persistent wind-blown rain and keep mail, notices and waiting users dry.
- Wind loadingExposed coastal and hill sites require structural connections and anchoring details engineered for sustained wind, not just calm-weather service.
Materials & engineering approach
HuaSheng's coastal material system includes galvanized steel, stainless steel or aluminum structures, tempered safety glass and outdoor finishes. Factory treatment covered pretreatment, electrophoresis, powder coating and baking. The factory applied and cured coatings under controlled conditions. Modular assemblies use bolts and protected fixings. Flat-packed parts allow local teams to assemble shelters from HuaSheng drawings.
Manufacturing & quality process
The ISO 9001 process covers drawing review, incoming inspection, cutting and forming, welding, surface treatment, assembly, final inspection and export packing. Assembly includes accessories. Final inspection covers appearance, structure and fit. DMAIC control includes incoming, first-part, production and final inspections. These records support public-sector buyers. Long-term OEM clients, including IKEA, audit the quality system.
Delivery & outcome
Staff flat-packed the shelters, grouped parts by assembly sequence and protected them for sea transport. Loading plans used the available container space. HuaSheng provided assembly drawings and remote support for the New Zealand team. The project added an Oceania reference for public facilities in coastal climates.
