In 2019, HuaSheng manufactured all-aluminium modern bus shelters for the Korean market, engineered to Korean municipal standards. The shelters were fabricated at HuaSheng's 120,000 m² production base in Guangzhou and shipped as modular units for installation by local teams. The procurement challenge

Municipal shelter programmes in Korea are specification-driven: the buyer defines dimensions, structural sections, glazing, finish and signage positions against municipal standard drawings, and every shelter in the batch must match. For an overseas supplier, the bar is therefore not "can you build a shelter" but "can you build the same shelter repeatedly, to our drawings, and document it". The requirement in this case was an all-aluminium structure — not steel with aluminium trim — with the dimensional consistency and finish uniformity that a city expects when identical shelters are installed street after street.

Aluminium & standards requirements

Aluminium was specified for reasons that recur in Korean and other East Asian municipal tenders. As design requirements, they translate into engineering constraints the manufacturer must meet:

  • Corrosion behaviourAluminium's natural oxide layer, combined with a powder-coated finish over proper pre-treatment, is well suited to humid summers, coastal cities and de-icing exposure in winter.

  • Finish uniformityMunicipal standards demand a consistent colour and gloss across the entire batch, which places the burden on the supplier's coating line and process control rather than on-site touch-up.

Materials & engineering approach

HuaSheng engineered the shelters around aluminium profiles — one of the three structural material families the factory works in daily, alongside hot-dip galvanized steel and 304/201 stainless steel. Frames were designed as bolt-together modular assemblies rather than fully welded monoliths, so each shelter could be flat-packed, classified by assembly sequence and re-assembled accurately on site. Tempered safety glass and canopy panels followed HuaSheng's standard outdoor build system, with drainage and shading detailing carried over from its domestic shelter programmes. Surfaces were finished on the factory's digital automatic spray line — pre-treatment, electrophoresis, powder coating and baking — to give the aluminium a durable outdoor coating system applied under factory-controlled conditions.

Manufacturing & quality process

The shelters followed HuaSheng's standard eight-step process under its ISO 9001 quality system: design and process review against the buyer's drawings; IQC incoming inspection of aluminium and accessories; laser cutting and CNC forming; robotic plus manual welding and riveting; surface treatment on the automatic spray line; clean assembly with electrical and accessory integration; FQC final inspection of appearance, structure and electrical; and packing for export. DMAIC-based quality control — IQC, first-piece inspection, IPQC patrol and FQC — generates the inspection records that municipal buyers can file with their procurement documentation. HuaSheng also holds bus shelter design patents and structural utility patents covering shelter structures, light boxes and connectors.

Delivery & outcome

The shelters were delivered as modular, flat-packed units, classified by assembly sequence and loaded totem-style to maximise container utilisation, with assembly drawings and remote support provided for the local installation team. The completed programme added Korea to HuaSheng's overseas shelter references and demonstrated that the factory's aluminium fabrication, coating and QC chain can meet the standardization expectations of a developed East Asian municipal market.
